Building legacy, one scholar at a time.
Calvin D. Butts Inc., was founded in 2010 by Calvin’s mother Sharon E. Butts, and brother Christopher Butts. Organized following Calvin’s tragic passing in 2009. During his brief life of 26 years, Calvin left a positive impact on many who have crossed his path and that legacy continues today through all of our scholarship recipients and programs.
We are on a mission to create a legacy by providing hope and support for our future leaders.
To date, Calvin D Butts. Inc., has awarded scholarships to over 100 deserving scholars across the nation through the Calvin Butts Memorial Scholarship Program. CDB has since expanded programs to bridge the gap in underserved communities further. We would not be able to carry out our mission without the help of our partners and supporters. By faith, we believe we will continue to increase the lives we impact worldwide. Your gift and support is greatly appreciated.
Our Mission
Our mission is to honor Calvin’s legacy through primary, secondary and post secondary education by providing mentorship, enrichment programs, activities, and support for underserved youth nationwide.
MEET THE TEAM
-
CEO & Founder
Sharon E. Butts is a Riverhead, NY native. Growing up in a single-family household, Sharon was really close with her mother Rosa Estelle Carter (MeMa) to her grandchildren (Calvin and Christopher). Sharon grew up close to her mother's side of the family and their kids.
After high school, Sharon took on a career as a bus driver in her early twenties. She worked with the same company through birthing two children and her marriage. She would finally retire from driving in 2019 after sustaining injuries.
After Calvin's tragic death in 2009, Sharon became heavily involved in the progress of Calvin D. Butts Inc and Calvin Butts Memorial Scholarship program and is a great asset in forming CBMS into what it is today.
